VIVA TEQUILA KAYAK RACES
ON THE BEACH MAY 4th!
Sea kayaking is one of the top four activities
enjoyed by international tourists seeking the solitude
of the islands and pristine bays surrounding the
city of La Paz, Mexico.
To promote kayak adventure tours and create greater
awareness of the benefits one can enjoy from the
sport of sea kayaking, BCG and Baja Tours has organized
a free, unique event for locals and visiting tourists
to participate in during the Tequila and Mariachi
Festival in
La Paz.
Join us on Saturday, May 4th between 10:00 am and
4:00 pm at the main pier in front of the Hotel La
Perla to enjoy some fun, spirited kayak racing.
You need not be a skilled kayaker to participate
in the kayak festivities on the beach in the Bay
of La Paz. Kayaks and experienced guides providing
basic instruction are being donated by the following
premier eco-tourism companies in La Paz:

Enjoy the dramatic scenery where the desert meets
the turquoise sea. Our 1st Sea Kayaking Regatta and
camping expedition will take place on the beautiful
island of Espiritu Santo, a world-class kayaking destination.
This will be the opportunity to challenge your skills
and endurance to compete with your kayaking peers.
You'll race the clock amongst impressive mountain
ranges, coves, beaches and abundant marine life that
surrounds the world reknowned Espiritu Santo Island.
During the evenings you can enjoy hiking through cactus-lined
canyons, snorkeling with sea lions, afternoon beach
volleyball, or just relaxing and drinking Margaritas
at sunset. These are just a few of the activities
offered on these memorable trip.

Arrival of participants, overnight in La Paz

08:00 Participants Registration, Hi-Carbo Breakfast
during reading of the rules following the set
up of camp teams. (There will be up to 3 camps
set up with a maximum of 30 persons per camp).
12:00 Departures to the island for boat ride
inspection and camp set up. Catered Lunch, afternoon
practice (optional), dinner and overnight stay
on the Island.

APR 29–May 01, Monday–Wednesday
|

First stage of race begins April 29. 3rd stage
finishes May 01. Elapsed time will be recorded
and added together to determine the overall
best time. All three camps leave at the same
time and proceed in a clockwise direction around
the island so there is no overcrowding in any
given camp.

May 02, Thursday

Rest day and group gathering, Island excursions
and exploration, hiking, snorkeling, diving,
etc. In the afternoon, return trips to LAP with
overnight at hotels.

May 03, Friday

Enjoy The Festival and the City during the
LA PAZ Brith Day!

May 04, Saturday:

|
10:00 AM 3K Sprint in the Bay of La Paz. The
entire city is invited to watch the Sprint.
Award Dinner at the Festival on the Tourist
Pier at 7:00pm. Ceremony to be held.

May 05, Sunday:

Flight back or optional tours to Loreto &
Los Cabos, Mission
Trails, etc.

WE WILL BE SETTING UP 3 BASE CAMPS at Candelero,
Ensenada Grande y Bonanza, each of which can accommodate
12-30 racers per camp. The racers will leave at the
same time every race day in order to arrive at a new
campsite, which is set prior and ready to receive
them. There will be support boats and judges timing
the arrivals traveling along with each group.
KAYAK REGATTA SERVICE INCLUDES:
Airport - hotel - airport transportation, first
and last night at a local La Paz hotel, Registration
Breakfast, Event Registration Pack (T-shirt, Number
and goodies), transportation to the island and back,
all meals and beverages once departed to the island,
kayaking guide- naturalist, cooks, fiberglass sea
kayaks (doubles and singles) Seed, Northwest and Wilderness

SEA KAYAKING AND MARINE ECOLOGY CLINICS
Available: March - April and October- December,
2002
Length of trip: 5 nights / 6 days at campsite
Improve your sea kayaking skills while learning about
the marine ecology of the Sea of Cortez. Our American
Canoe Association certified coastal sea kayaking instructors
will teach our students during morning sessions according
to the American Canoe Association Fundamentals of Sea
Kayaking Course. The warm, tranquil bays of Espiritu
Santo Island are the perfect location to improve braces,
rescues and to attempt the Eskimo roll. Later, put your
new skills to the test as we do some extended paddles
to explore the volcanic cliffs and white sandy beaches
of the island. Afternoon sessions will be dedicated
to exploring the marine ecology of the Sea of Cortez.
Get a hands-on look at tide pools, identify reef fishes,
learn about whales and more. Seminars are taught on
the beach followed by hands-on field experiences during
the peaceful, vermilion skied sunsets of Espiritu Santo.
Plenty of outdoor activity and fresh meals fulfill the
clinic. Length of the clinic is 6 days / 5 nights at
the island and 2 nights hotel accommodation on arrival
and departure dates.
